A Wrong Turn in a Battle

(Shard, Ilithi: 24 Akroeg 354)

By all the Gods, the past few days are like a blur to me, All I remember now are the screams of battle and the clash of blades. The Sting of arrows and the pain of cuts too numerous to list. A small band and I had just slain a Foul Gorbesh mage and I scouted south while the rest sought to make it to the east gate and into the safety of Shard. Running swiftly through some trees and making a wrong turn, I ran out onto the clearing still shocked by what I saw and the events even now.

A Unit of gorbesh lined up perfectly. 100 strong. A commander, with mages, even an enchanter, beside the Captains, Archers and Line soldiers. Above it all, an awful Catapult rising into the sky.

Suddenly the Commander spotted me. He took off his Hat and brought it and his hand down sharply. The Roar deafened my ears as the charged. I feel no Shame in telling you that fear ran rampent through my body. Fortunatly training took over and I unslung my bow; my fingers a blur of motion as I shot arrow after arrow into the ranks. Unable to miss by the sheer ranks. Other Heros appeared at my side. A Brave mage named Cainyn who helped me slay a mage, tossing fireballs. We know however, this was a lost battle and quickly made haste to run back dragging our wounded with us. As we fell back a unit of Defenders of Shard and Militia charged forward. I do not think I shall ever see bravery again as I did that day. I chuckle to myself remembering this fateful wrong turn and the bravery I showed as well as The other defenders of Shard.
